The summer of 2017: the European Women’s Football Championship is held in the Netherlands for the first time. A good reason for talking football in the classroom. Football is a sport for everyone, but especially for girls. Together with teachers, children, professional and amateur football players, DST developed an interactive teaching package called Kicken! for the Royal Dutch Football Association, which is suitable for all grades of primary school. A teaching package bursting with fun, and encouraging children to have (more) physical exercise.
Football for everyone
Kicken! helps teachers raise all aspects of football in the classroom. The relationship between exercise, good nutrition and health, for example. But also the importance of supporting one another, the various functions of team members and the importance of working together. The emphasis in Kicken! is always on football as a team sport, where it is all about playing together and having fun together. Thanks to this approach, Kicken! is also interesting for students (and teachers) who do not get excited at first, when they hear the word ‘football’.
On 31 January 2017, the new teaching materials were festively kicked off at De Griffioen elementary school in Prinsenbeek. The event generated generous press coverage in the nationwide (audio-visual) media as well as in media that are relevant to the target group (educational journals, etc.).
